UltraDrop isn't an extension or utility, merely a very clever and useful thing you can do with folders under System 7. I didn't think of it (so I'm allowed to say it's clever) - all I've done is provide some collections of folders which you may find useful. Credit for the original idea goes to 'Joe - The Rendererer' (sic), on AOL, whomever he may be. His original explanation is provided, along with his original folder.
What am I talking about?
If you look at the four icons within the 'Original' folder, you'll see that each depicts a small button, placed in positions which, when taken together, make up a whole icon square. Each is pasted onto a folder, and are brought into alignment by dragging the four folders in turn onto approximately the same space with the Command Key held down. This locks the icon drag to the invisible grid, and ensures exact placing.
In other words, you have four folders taking the space of only one on the desktop. Or, if you use some of the ones I have provided, EIGHT folders.
How do I use them?
To use them for your own folders, simply copy the icons across in the normal way and use Command-drag to align them. The icons can be used for folders, documents, applications or aliases of the above – whatever helps. I use mine, especially the drawer icons, for enabling me to send or access files to or from folders spread all over the hard disk from one icon on the desktop.
When a file is dragged over the folder collection, each folder will highlight in turn, and the name will be shown at the bottom.You may find it helpful, when naming the folders, to introduce spaces at the beginning and end of folder names. This will prevent longer folders' names from overlapping.
My Folders
I have provided folders in the following styles: metal cabinets with 4 and 8 drawers, wooden cabinets with 4 and 8 drawers, a bookcase with four books, and a couple of mildly futuristic L-shapes (two folders) and Centre Spots (five folders).
